I keep hearing people talk about 'engagement'. I think it's time we accepted the fact that this is a load of crap.

People do not 'engage' with organizations. They are not stupid. They know that if things get difficult the organisation will desert them and do everything it can to save itself. People have become cynical about employment as they have lived through countless reviews, reorganizations, redundancies...

The Myth of the Engagement Survey

When I was much younger, I remember reading the words “don’t ever underestimate the power of human stupidity”. It is a maxim I have come to employ many times in my career.

Unfortunately, I have a formed a belief over the years that it is in fact, stupidity, that drives many of our organisational processes. I know I won’t be popular for questioning the ‘accepted’ dogma but I stress that I only do so out the desire to improve.
